Choosing the Right Glass Pipette:
A Guide to Precision and Material Selection

Precision matters when working in industries like pharmaceuticals, cosmetics or health and nutrition. Selecting the right pipette requires taking several key factors into account. At Calaso, we offer glass pipettes that provide durable and chemical-resistant solutions for various applications. Here’s what you need to consider when choosing the right pipette.

Why Choose Glass Pipettes?

Glass pipettes are highly durable, non-reactive, and help maintain product purity by ensuring precise, contamination-free application. Whether you’re working with essential oils, serums, or other high-end cosmetic formulations, glass pipettes help maintain the integrity of your product by ensuring

precise application to specific areas while preventing contamination and waste. It is a sustainable option that aligns with premium branding and performance requirements, providing longevity and enhanced product experience.

Key Components: Bulb, Cap, Tube, and Tip

Each part of a pipette impacts its performance:

Bulbs

The bulb, made from silicone or nitrile, controls the dispensing of liquid. Its material is crucial in determining its compatibility with your product.

  • TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer);
    is the most commonly used material for alcohol-based and low-acidity products, valued for its flexibility and durability.
  • NBR (Nitrile Rubber);
    is specialised for oil-based and high-acidity liquids, making it ideal for more sensitive formulations.
  • PP (Polypropylene);
    is another material option, known for its resistance to chemical solvents and overall durability.

In addition to the above, we also offer push-button pipettes, which are ideal for cosmetic products and add a more premium, sophisticated look.

Caps

We offer a range of caps to meet your specific needs, including classic skirt, push-button, tamper-evident, and child-resistant options.

  • Classic Skirt: A sleek, traditional option suitable for a variety of products.
  • Push-Button: Ideal for cosmetic products, offering a premium, easy-to-use solution.
  • Tamper-Evident: These caps feature a plastic ring that breaks upon the first opening, serving as a clear indicator if the product has been accessed.
  • Child-Resistant: Designed for added safety, these caps require a push-down-and-turn motion to open, preventing children from accessing the product.

Tube

The glass tube ensures precise dispensing and must be tailored to the bottle’s dimensions for accurate dosing. Ensure that the tube length matches the bottle’s height to allow users to extract even the last remaining drops of the product.

Tips

The tip of the pipette should offer precise control over the amount dispensed. If your product involves viscous liquids such as serums or oils, consider whether a wide or narrow opening is more suitable. The shape of the tip also matters—whether straight or spherical.

  • A bent ball tip creates perfectly measured drops, ideal for precise applications.
  • A straight tip releases the product all at once, making it better suited for situations where dispensing volume is more important than the number of drops.

Selecting the Right Glass Pipette

Volume Accuracy: Choose a pipette with the appropriate volume range to ensure precision. Calaso offers pipettes in various sizes to suit your needs. A general rule is that the larger the bulb, the greater the dosage. For example, sizes such as 0.4 ml, 0.7 ml, and 1.0 ml generally indicate the amount that can be drawn by squeezing the bulb, although this may vary depending on the type of product and its viscosity. (Note: This does not apply to push-button pipettes, which have a different mechanism for dosage control.)

Bottle Compatibility: It’s essential to ensure that your pipette is properly matched with the bottle. Beyond the neck size, the length of the pipette’s

tube must also be considered. Pipettes are designed to fit specific bottles, so checking compatibility is key, as the tube length cannot be adjusted. Selecting the right tube diameter and cap fit is critical in preventing leaks and ensuring a seamless user experience.

Durability: Glass pipettes last longer and provide more sustainable solutions than plastic alternatives. Proper cleaning will ensure they maintain their functionality over time.

Test Before You Decide

As every product’s formulation can behave differently, we always recommend testing the pipette with your specific product to ensure it meets your expectations for performance and compatibility.
